Every hunter will at some point suffer what I like to call “a hunter’s back”. The hunter’s back is the never-ending pain a hunter will feel after spending hours with their back to a tree. I know this pain all too well, and well… I hate it. We all experience different types of back pain depending on your hunting preference. For me, it’s lower back pain. The throbbing I feel after spending time in a tree is miserable and it only gets worse with the cold.
It feels like the cold assists in making my bones and muscles ache.
The pain takes its toll as soon as I use my climber to get up a tree. Two hours later the pain becomes intolerable and consumes my entire focus. To combat the overwhelming pain, I’m forced to change positions every so often. But with changing positions comes the noise of me doing so, which creates another inconvenience. I’ve tried a number of things, from taking ibuprofen between my morning and afternoon hunts to putting a cushion under me to take the pressure off of my lower half. Both showed a decrease in pain, but it was never completely gone. I bought Heat Factory’s Heated Back Wrap and was in awe at the difference the heat made.
The back wrap is intended to wrap around your lower back, but you can use it around your core to keep you warm during hunts. It’s got two pockets in the inside in which you can put their large warmers. When it’s 20 degrees outside and your muscles are aching from the stand, it creates the perfect amount of heat that will keep you warm and soothe your back pain. The warmers themselves lasted the entire hunt. In fact, the wrap was still warm after I finished my dinner. We all know pain can ruin a hunt, but the warmers in conjunction with the back wrap gave me the endurance I needed to power through the cold and pain. When it comes down to the hunt, your mind should be focused on the crunch of a deer hoof hitting the ground, and that’s what the back wrap allowed me to do.
